Simple Divorce: In North Carolina a proceeding for Divorce covers only the actual "Absolute Divorce". The issues related to separation are handled either by Separation Agreement (if the parties can agree on the issues) or by litigating whichever issues are not agreed (ie... property division, alimony, custody, child support). The actual divorce is a separate lawsuit that can only be commenced after a 1 year separation period, and the basis for the granting of the divorce is the 1 year separation. So, the procedure for the actual divorce - since it does not deal with the potentially contested issues - is very streamlined and generally event free. Mr. Dalrymple had handled simple divorces for over 20 years.
